Hot Problem Tamed at Ford
Overview The Interiors Division of the Ford Motor Company's Visteon plant in Saline, Mich., was experiencing a serious problem with high scrap rates on vinyl parts they were thermoforming. Ford had a number of thermoformers in use throughout the plant. But on the machines molding the vinyl covers, the heater control system was old and unreliable. With the help of a systems integrator, Ford successfully installed the HS724 on two thermoformers at their Visteon plant during the July shutdown in 1999. By July 18, they were producing vinyl covers on both machines, several days earlier than originally felt had been possible.
