Frequency-Domain Equalization for OFDM Over Doubly-Selective Channels

Overview This paper proposes a new equalization technique for multi-carrier systems over time- and frequency-selective channels. Due to the time-variation of the channel, the orthogonality between subcarriers is destroyed. A 1-tap time-varying filter is used to combat the time-variation of the channel. However, it is shown that by transferring the time-domain operations to the frequency-domain, we can approach the performance of the purely frequency-selective channel. An important feature of the proposed technique is that no bandwidth expansion or redundancy insertion is required.
