As the demand for The Weather Channel's products and services grown globally, so too have its infrastructure requirements. Flexibility was an important issue moving forward because the data that The Weather Channel distributes to its customers is highly personalized. Hamilton ultimately chose the Hitachi Freedom Storage Lightning 9960 precisely because it thrives in rapidly shifting conditions and easily scales to meet specialized customer demands. Together, Hitachi Data Systems and The Weather Channel mapped out an ambitious plan to create a three-tiered environment comprising 12TB usable RAID-5 storage on the Lightning 9960, four Brocade Silkworm 2800 switches, and the servers.
