Migrating Enterprise Databases From Sun Servers to Dell Servers - Part 2: The PowerEdge 6650 Running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 AS

Overview To take advantage of high performing, cost effective, industry standard Intel-based servers, many enterprises are migrating their mission-critical applications from proprietary Unix systems to Dell servers. To demonstrate the ease and benefits of migration from Sun Solaris-based servers, a large (100 GB) database, representing an online store, running on a leading enterprise database manager, was quickly and easily moved from a Sun Fire V440 server with four 1.28 GHz UltraSPARC IIIi processors running Solaris 9 to the Dell PowerEdge 6650 4-way server running Red Hat Enterprise 3 AS.
