Hitachi Storage at Work Case Study: Johannes Kepler University of Linz

Overview The Johannes Kepler University of Linz has the biggest super-computer centre in Austria. Supercomputing, in particular, has a continual thirst for storage capacity and together with the short lifecycle of servers and continual development of new applications the university's IT environment is in a state of constant change. As a result, it became an urgent necessity to consolidate their storage into a centralised, open and scalable infrastructure. After a thorough evaluation of all the available options, the decision was taken to consolidate onto the Hitachi Data Systems Lightning 9970V. The superior capacity, performance and flexibility of the Lightning 9970V would deliver significant benefits across many areas of the university's activities and operations.
