Storage Virtualization and the HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array

Overview This white paper presents an overview of storage virtualization at the controller level of a storage system. Virtualization technology allows companies to respond quickly to ever-changing storage capacity requirements. Virtualization has multiple definitions and many different implementations in a storage area network (SAN).

The paper also describes how HP defines virtualization technology and how it applies to the HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) storage system. It explores how virtualization of storage provides advantages over conventional storage through performance, management, distributed sparing, Virtually Capacity-Free Snapshot replication, and Virtually Instantaneous Snapclone replication.
