Rechenzentrum Garching Powers Up With a Supercomputer Solution From IBM
Overview The Rechenzentrum Garching (RZG) is the computing centre of the Max Planck Institute for Plasmaphysics (IPP), which was founded in 1960. As scientific models become more complex and include more data, the demand for processing power and storage capacity increases rapidly. With constant pressure for greater performance, RZG needed to replace its existing supercomputer to ensure that it could continue to meet the needs of its researchers. Working with IBM, RZG has implemented a supercomputer composed of 24 IBM eServer pSeries 690 servers in a High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster, connected by an IBM High Performance Switch network.
