Conversation by Blog: Expanding Personal Technology Into the Academic Community
Overview This paper outlines the potential expansion of the blog as a venue for professional and philosophical discussion by the visual communication design community and other similar professional groups. Although blogs have been adopted as a unique form of communication tool by a variety of schools, businesses and government organizations, the academic community has not yet taken advantage of the opportunities presented by blogging. Academic blogs, whether personal, collaborative, portal, or open-system, can form the basis of a rich kind of intellectual exchange that blurs the traditional boundaries between conversation and participation, to the benefit of both the individual scholar and the larger community.
