Data Center White Papers
Detroit Free Press
Overview The Detroit Free Press is a major metropolitan newspaper serving a circulation of over 360,000 in Detroit and southeastern Michigan. The Detroit Free Press needed to strengthen IT infrastructure by replacing unstable notebook computers, standardizing a data center to manage departmental needs, and implementing a storage and backup solution to handle massive file archives. To do this, the organization deployed 400 desktop computers ranging from the Dell OptiPlex GX110 to OptiPlex GX260, and Dell Latitude X200 notebook computers; Dell PowerEdge servers; and a storage area network (SAN) based on the DellEMC FC4500 and a Dell PowerVault 136T for automated tape backup. As a result, the Detroit Free Press has greater PC reliability for journalists in the field; a cost-effective, high-performance data center in the newsroom, increased storage capacity to manage file archives, and faster data retrieval.
