The University of South Carolina Spartanburg (USCS)
Overview The University of South Carolina Spartanburg (USCS), one of eight USC campuses, was founded in 1967. Today, USC Spartanburg is a rapidly growing campus in the USC system, providing higher education to nearly 5,000 students. USC Spartanburg's growth is guided by a strategic plan and part of that plan calls for robust IT integrated into every aspect of the university. The challenge for USC Spartanburg: offer better e-mail service to faculty, staff, and students; improve network speed and performance by migrating from a network attached storage (NAS)system to a storage area network (SAN). To do this, USC Spartanburg standardized on Dell PowerEdge servers and Microsoft Exchange 2003 for an e-mail system; and migrated to Dell/EMC CX200 SAN with more than 3 TB of storage capacity. As a result, USC Spartanburg sees improved communications with faculty and students; wider student adoption of university-offered e-mail; easier user management; and savings in printing and mailing costs.
