UNIX White Papers

MedPointe - June 2004

Overview In 2001, MedPointe, a specialty pharmaceutical company, acquired laboratory operations from the long-established Carter-Wallace pharmaceutical company. From a business standpoint, the move gave MedPointe—which was a newly launched company at the time—a powerful competitive asset. But from a technology standpoint, the acquisition presented the company's IT group with some special challenges. The challenge for MedPointe: Complex, expensive UNIX systems strain IT resources at a specialty pharmaceutical company. The solution: Move systems to a clustered configuration that combines Dell PowerEdge servers, Oracle Real Application Clusters, and Microsoft Windows Server. As a result, MedPointe enjoys an easy-to-manage platform that cuts costs and simplifies management while supporting a fast-moving business.
