Learning Management Systems White Papers

UC Berkeley Relies on Java Technology and Open Source Software to Advance Its Core Mission

Overview A team of engineers from Student Information Systems at the University of California, Berkeley will deliver a new set of web-based learning management tools. These tools are part of e-Berkeley, an initiative sponsored by the Chancellor's office to advance web-enabled applications that make processes like registering for classes, printing course descriptions, buying books, even posting grades, much more efficient. UC Berkeley's Information Systems and Technology Division is creating these tools using a Sun Blade 1000 workstation running under the Solaris 8 Operating Environment. This Java technology-based application along with Sun series 400 UNIX servers will connect a campus-wide network of learning technology tools.
