Experience With TDMA/WLL Implementation in Thailand

Overview In 2002, overall fixed-line capacity penetration in Thailand was 12.64% or about 13 telephone lines available per 100 populations. To disentangle this challenge, TOT has adopted the time division multiple access (TDMA) and the wireless local loop (WLL) systems to provide telephone and Internet access to rural villages in Thailand. However, there evidences a large number of TDMA/WLL equipment failures before the end of their service life. The main focus of this paper is to present the TDMA/WLL system configuration implemented in Thailand, identifies the major reasons of TDMA/WLL equipment failures and discusses the suitability for internet connection with TDMA/WLL.
