A Component-Based Approach to SLA Monitoring in Premium IP Networks

Overview This paper illustrates a proposal for a monitoring framework for the collection and distribution of performance data. The idea of this proposal is mainly based on the definition of an information document named Service Level Indication (SLI). Monitoring information, related to a specific Service Level Agreement, are so retrieved from the network and provided to the user application, by collecting and appropriately combining performance metrics and measures in an SLI document instance. Such a document is the interface allowing to exchange monitoring information between peer components located in different domains as well as between components at different levels of abstraction in the same domain.
