HP Bluestone's Total-e-Server at Altura International: Deploying J2EE for Performance and Scalability

Overview Altura provides a one-stop business-to-consumer resource that provides consumers with easy access to more than 17,000 merchant catalogs and their products. In 1999, traffic to Altura's website was growing rapidly, thanks in large part to the strategic relationships it was forging with leading Internet portals. However, as traffic increased, Altura's IT managers began to notice some performance problems they were unable to overcome. Their existing solution offered no centralized services for managing multiple web servers. Altura chose to rearchitect its site around HP Bluestone's Total-e-Server, the company's J2EE-based application-server foundation. Altura developers rewrote the multivendor, multilanguage, multicurrency shopping cart and other core business technology in the Java programming language and built new production architecture around Total-e-Server.
