OptimalJ Versus In-Sync Modeling Tools

Overview At first glance, code-centric modeling tools e.g., EclipseUML, Rational XDE or Together ControlCenter might look similar to OptimalJ. Each allows you to perform some modeling via a class diagram, generate code from the diagram, support code patterns, compile and debug Java code and keep the code and the diagram synchronized (a.k.a. "in-sync" modeling). However, this misses the point of both product genres. When looking at OptimalJ for the first time, the UML-based Domain Model is obviously a primary focus - but the true value of the tool goes far beyond that "visible" capability. The intent of this paper is to shed light on the power behind the model-driven approach as defined by OptimalJ.
