IBM Case Study: Alicos

Overview A joint venture between Alitalia and Gruppo COS, Alicos was established in 2000 as an independent call center for airline reservation operations. When Alicos opened its first location in Palermo, it was starting from scratch. Its most pressing need was the ability to control physical access to the new building - a measure critical for protecting information technology (IT) systems and sensitive data, and tracking the work hours of employees. Alicos wanted both digital video surveillance and access card functionality, but knew that maintaining the two separate systems would require too much administrative work and drive up costs. Thus, the company turned to IBM, recognizing the global IT provider's ability to deliver an end-to-end, integrated security and access control system.
