Seamless Handoff in Community Based and Location Aware Heterogeneous Wireless Networks

Overview The fast growing number of WLAN hotspots (restricted or unrestricted access) especially in densely populated cities may be able to provide the bandwidth current cellular network technologies such as GPRS cannot, and UMTS in the near future will not provide. Hence they have found broad acceptance among mobile users enjoying high bandwidth wireless connections. This paper presents an architecture which supports the discovery, pre-registration and ?out-of-band? candidate prediction of wireless LAN hotspots for location-based services over heterogeneous networks.
