Generics and Tagging Technologies
Overview There are many different technologies used for tagging currently and also several new emerging technologies as listed in the table below. The functionality of each of these technologies varies greatly, as do their costs. For example, at one end of the tagging spectrum barcodes provide a cheap, short-range, read-only method of storing small amounts of information about a product. At the other extreme, RFID tags provide the ability to track and identify multiple products, people and vehicles over distances up to approximately 30m.
