IEEE 802.16 for Broadband Wireless

Overview This paper talks about 802.16. In recent years there has been increasing interest shown in wireless technologies for subscriber access, as an alternative to traditional twisted-pair local loop. These approaches are generally referred to as wireless local loop (WLL), or fixed-wireless access. To provide a standardized approach to WLL, the IEEE 802 committee set up the 802.16 working group in 1999 to develop broadband wireless standards. IEEE 802.16 standardizes the air interface and related functions associated with WLL.
