SpecSavers Place Handsfree Operation in the Frame

Overview Formed only 15 years ago, the Specsavers Optical Group is now the number one optical retailer in the United Kingdom. As part of its drive to continually improve customer service, Specsavers has replaced the paper-based picking system at their Guernsey warehouse with a new computer system, which will streamline the frame picking process, increase the speed in which orders are filled and improve the efficiency of the buying and stock-keeping processes. It uses the Symbol WSS 1040 Wearable System, which combines Symbol's laser scanning and radio frequency data communications technologies to provide, in two lightweight components: a ring scanner worn on the index finger and a wrist-mounted microcomputer with an eight-line display, keyboard, battery pack and radio for wireless data communications. The system allows users to have both hands to perform warehouse receiving and picking tasks while scanning bar code data.
