New Server Platform Fuels Hosting Provider's Rapid Growth and Sustained Profitability

Overview Founded in 1999, Rackspace Managed Hosting offered hosting services exclusively on open source software such as Linux until 2001. As customers began to request hosting based on Microsoft software such as Windows and SQL Server, the company decided to offer services running on Windows Server, particularly to large enterprises such as Fortune 500 companies. Rackspace now offers Microsoft Windows Server System integrated server software for all its hosting solutions and has rapidly accelerated its business growth as a result. The company even created a separate division, called Intensive Hosting, which exclusively markets a Windows Server-based high-performance infrastructure for mission-critical applications. Today, more than half of Rackspace's new business comes from Microsoft-based hosting.
