Perspective on Open Source Software (OSS) vs. Commercial Proprietary Software

Overview Although software that has been unencumbered by intellectual property restrictions (or at least enforced restrictions) has been freely developed and shared since software was created, it is only within the last few years that the phenomenon most widely known as “open source” has emerged to challenge the traditional proprietary software business model.
