Windows Data Alignment on IPF, x86, and x86-64
Overview Intel and AMD have introduced a family of processors, the Intel Itanium Processor Family (IPF) Architecture and the AMD x86-64 Architecture. These processors join the IA-32 Intel Architecture family in the Microsoft Windows desktop/server world. Proper data alignment allows to get the most out of 64- and 32-bit applications - and on the Itanium, it's often not only a matter of performance, but can be a matter of correctness.
