NorthEast Medical Hospital Improves Operations With Wireless Pocket PCs

Overview Like so many other health care organizations, NEMC is constantly seeking ways to control costs while improving the efficiency ? and ultimately, the overall quality ? of its health care services. It has tackled this issue by centralizing its billing office, carefully managing its health care contracting, consolidating administrative costs and purchasing procedures, and maximizing its IT systems investment. As part of its IT efforts, NEMC staff decided to deploy an enterprise-wide mobile computing technology solution to deliver patient information to physicians at the point of care. The goal was to reduce or eliminate the time and inefficiency associated with more traditional methods of gathering patient information to where it is needed. After extensive review and consultation with technology solution providers, NorthEast Medical Center decided to deploy a wireless network that delivers medical information in a secure manner from various backend medical systems to physicians using Microsoft Windows Powered Pocket PC devices.
