Marine Corps Maintenance Centers Prepare for the Future: An Experienced Implementation Partner Helps the Marine Corps Achieve Its Goal of “One System, One Team, One Plan.”
Overview The U.S. Marine Corps began the most in-depth review of business practices ever undertaken in the history of its depot maintenance program in March 1993. If the Maintenance Centers were to survive, they needed to change. Competition and privatization, bottom-up reviews, reengineering efforts, and downsizing were increasing. At the same time, the Marine Corps was committed to a philosophy of total quality leadership (TQL), which led it to develop a plan that would take the Corps into the 21st century. Today, the outlook for the depot maintenance program is much brighter as Joint Logistics Systems Center (JLSC) systems complement the Marine Corps’ change in business practices. The implementation of the Programmed Depot Maintenance Scheduling System (PDMSS) developed jointly by Robbins-Gioia, Inc., an Alexandria, Virginia-based program management firm, and the JLSC has resulted in improved efficiency and productivity.
