Outsourcing Helps Exel plc Achieve Transformational Change
Overview Exel first outsourced the finance functions of its contract logistics business in the United Kingdom to an Accenture-managed shared services centre in 1996 as part of a transformational change program. In so doing, Exel consolidated 13 administration centres and six different accounting systems. The 18-month change program delivered a standard Oracle-based enterprise solution platform to support the UK contract logistics business as well as enhanced business processes such as purchase ordering. The results are substantially reduced finance costs and resources as well as improved business performance such as significantly reduced unallocated cash and receivables.
