Sun Microsystems Delivers Total Hardware and Software Solution for Research and Education

Overview For Belgium’s Notre-Dame de la Paix University, scientific research activities are of prime importance, especially in the fields of IT, chemistry, economics and development, financial management and sociological analysis of scientific practices. In 1984, the University established a Scientific Computing Facility (SCF), whose purpose was to provide powerful calculation tools, software programming applications and training modules to the teaching rooms and laboratories in the physics and chemistry departments. Due to the variety of demands to be met, the SCF computing system needs to be extremely versatile. After tendering its requirements to several different vendors, the University’s choice fell on Sun Microsystems, who were able to deliver a complete end-to-end solution that met all of the University’s demands.
