Remote Access - RA Servers White Papers

Protecting Windows RPC Traffic

Overview Many popular applications deployed widely in corporations use Remote Procedure Calls (RPCs), and in an increasingly mobile world, the users of these applications are demanding that the corporation make them available over the Internet. Traditional secure remote access solutions, such as direct dial or Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), are costly or otherwise burdensome. This paper discusses some of the perceptions and the realities of RPC vulnerabilities on the Windows platform, and the use of Microsoft's ISA server to address some of these issues.
