Dell ImageWatch Program Helps Customers Manage Master Images

Overview The Dell ImageWatch program was developed to help corporate and institutional customers better assess the impact of upcoming changes to OptiPlexTM desktop, Dell PrecisionTM Workstation, LatitudeTM portable, PowerEdgeTM server, and PowerVaultTM storage systems. Introduced in 1999, the ImageWatch program provides early notification to eligible customers of upcoming technology changes. The program is designed to help information technology professionals manage the rapid pace of technology changes by providing advance notice of changes impacting Dell hardware, peripheral devices, and software. This advance notice is important because changes to these components often impact the custom software setup, or software image, that is installed on customer hard drives. Under the ImageWatch program, Dell classifies each change according to its impact on customer images. There are five classes—A through E—with Class A changes requiring an image change and Class E changes having no impact on customer images. This white paper presents the key reasons for the ImageWatch program and describes the change classification system.
