Overview Jackson Memorial Hospital is the teaching hospital for the University Of Miami School Of Medicine. Dr. Powell, who is the Assistant Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology and Director of Anesthesia Information Systems, wanted to take the cumbersome, paper-based guidelines and operations of the hospital to new interactive levels. Jackson Memorial Hospital has implemented the first phase of its mobile healthcare initiative, purchasing 150 Palm handhelds. Clinicians now refer to their palmOne handhelds for an interactive, question/response decision support process, which guides them to appropriate clinical interventions. Mobile access to this and other applications allow clinicians to check treatment protocols, interactions, and other medical information right at the point of care.
