University of Connecticut School of Business Administration Uses Palm Handhelds to Foster Paperless Environments

Overview The University of Connecticut wanted to work towards achieving a paperless environment in classroom and business settings. To achieve its goal it utilized the help of Palm handheld with Palm.Net wireless Internet access and a Seiko Instruments SmartPad. The Palm handheld was used for note taking, scheduling, wireless web browsing, and more. Paper was banished from the class and tests were conducted electronically. Peer evaluations were done on the Palm handhelds and beamed to the professors and other students via the devices' infrared transmitters. This transformed the classroom and business settings into near-paperless environments, improved student productivity via wireless web browsing and enhanced collaboration on classroom and business projects via wireless communication.
