Oracle9i Real Application Clusters (RAC) Interconnect Performance

Overview Oracle 9i Real Application Clusters (RAC) multi- node implementations introduce another significant hardware component into the database server environment, a network interconnect used by RAC to coordinate activity among all of the participating nodes. These activities include global locking, enqueue and buffer cache management. Since RAC is a fairly new technology, generally available information on interconnect performance characteristics and requirements are rather limited. This paper provides some general RAC interconnect related guidelines and considerations. Much of this is based on actual customer benchmarks of large RAC on pSeries configurations.
