Autonomic Systems: Concept for Self-managing IT Infrastructures

Overview This paper explains Autonomic Systems, the paradigm for a new understanding of IT systems. An IT system is not just, what is known as a single computer, but comprises the entire set of components that work together to deliver application services. It is to be understood therefore as the sum of the servers, storage systems, end-user devices, and middleware functions that are required to deliver services with the availability, scalability, manageability, and security that businesses require. Server and storage infrastructures are consolidated on the basis of an autonomic infrastructure to provide opportunities for improving resource utilization while reducing IT complexity and total cost of ownership.
