Server Clusters: Storage Area Networks
Overview A storage area network (SAN) is defined as a set of interconnected devices (for example, disks and tapes) and servers that are connected to a common communication and data transfer infrastructure such as Fibre Channel. The common communication and data transfer mechanism for a given deployment is commonly known as the storage fabric. This paper describes what storage area networks (SAN) are, how server clusters can be deployed in a SAN, and how the Windows platform and Windows clustering in particular, take advantage of SAN technology.
