Consolidation onto 32-Way Intel-Based Servers Provides a New Image for Minolta ERP System

Overview Minolta Co., Ltd., a leading global manufacturer of image information and optical products, deployed SAP* R/3* enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems for corporate-level accounting and analysis. But with multiple software versions running on a variety of RISC-based servers around the world, the company encountered difficulties deploying new SAP R/3 modules that would help the company introduce a new consolidated accounting system and share knowledge more effectively on a consolidated scale. The Intel architecture provides the flexibility, scalability, reliability and performance to meet Minolta’s requirements for mission-critical computing. Using the new servers, Minolta shortened the processing time for material resource planning (MRP) jobs from three hours to one hour. The migration from RISC to Intel-based servers also gave Minolta twice the performance at half the cost.
