Desktop Systems - PCs White Papers
Dell Case Study: Occidental Petroleum Corp.
Overview Occidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE: OXY), headquartered in Los Angeles, California, is one of the world's largest independent oil and gas exploration and production companies and a major North American chemical manufacturer. Oxy's computer infrastructure consisted of servers running a ten year old Novell operating system, desktop and notebook computers using Windows 95, 98 and NT, and a Novell software distribution system. Application vendors and Microsoft no longer supported Windows 95 products and newly purchased PCs would not run Windows 95. Many of Oxy’s offices had varying software images, increasing costs support difficulties. A migration to Windows 2000/XP was a necessity. Oxy chose Dell for both its hardware and service capability to globally deploy 7,900 Dell OptiPlex desktops and Dell Latitude notebooks.
