E-Business Portal Saves Over $1 Million with Active Directory-Based Identity Management Solution

Overview In these times of rising medical costs and increased competition throughout the healthcare industry, BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina must keep administrative costs low while constantly raising the bar for operating efficiency and customer service. To help meet these business requirements, the company migrated its Private Business Unit - one of four e-business units with 1.4 million pre-populated profiles - from a Sun platform running iPlanet’s Netscape Directory to Active Directory on Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server. With an initial investment of $310,000, BlueCross now offers its Web users a faster, more reliable portal to the company’s products and services. The Microsoft-based Identity Management solution helped BlueCross avoid cost prohibitive licensing fees totaling $1.34 million over the next five years.
