Accenture Case Study: Sony

Overview Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) was preparing its launch of the latest version of the games console, PlayStation2 (PS2). Europe is the world's largest market for games consoles and the company wanted an on-line, direct-to-consumer presence in Europe to coincide with a Fall 2000 launch. But SCE Europe only had scattered informational Websites with no transactional eCommerce capabilities. In eight months the company needed to design and build a direct-to-consumer channel, pan-European in scope and rolled out in one single integrated step. It had never done before; all the big e-retailers had expanded in Europe country-by-country. SCE Europe engaged Accenture to design and build the infrastructure to provide B2C capabilities in time for the PlayStation 2 launch—in just eight months.
