FSU Manages the Business of Education with Web-Enabled DB2 Solution

Overview Florida State University (FSU) has come a long way since the 1960s, when it created its first administrative information systems. Back then, most applications were written in COBOL and accessed data stored in VSAM files. However, FSU recognized the need for a relational data structure that would support a greater variety of operational and analytical applications. So, it began migrating its VSAM data to IBM DB2 for z/OS. The migration to DB2 has laid the foundation for several significant developments at FSU, among them a Web-based enterprise decision system (EDS) and comprehensive set of online student services.
