Residential Service Aggregation in the Second Mile

Overview Strong demand for residential broadband services is a key revenue growth driver for service providers today, and it will continue to be in the future. This paper explains that to maximize profits, network costs for delivering these high-speed services must be minimized. Aggregation of subscribers to decrease the number of network links and increase link utilization can significantly reduce costs. These cost savings can be realized through the deployment of multi-service ATM switches, Ethernet switches, DSLAM subtending or a combination of three. The mixture of technologies can be tailored to meet the service provider's key business objectives.
