Ethernet in Intelligent Transportation System Applications: Intelligence is Essential
Overview Performance requirements of intelligent transportation system (ITS) networks are increasing dramatically. Many new ITS projects are using video monitoring, which increases bandwidth demands from thousands to tens of millions of bits per second. Mission-critical data coexists on the same network as lower-priority monitoring data, creating the need for bandwidth optimization. Wireless access is being considered for deployment at city intersections. This paper discusses about Ethernet, the most widely recognized networking standard today which is an obvious consideration. It is prevalent in most networks worldwide, is extremely cost-effective and is easy to deploy and manage.

Enabling VMware ESX Server VLAN Network Configurations for the Dell PowerEdge 1855 Blade Server
Virtualization allows for the creation of multiple virtual machines (VMs) that can run simultaneously on a single physical server. These VMs can communicate among each other and with other physical...
Performance Considerations for Network Switch Fabrics on Linux Clusters
In this paper the authors investigate the necessity of a high speed interconnect for Linux based clusters and the performance differences between Myrinet and Ethernet connected networks. The authors benchmark...
A Comparison of MPICH Allgather Algorithms on Switched Networks
The study discussed in this paper evaluates the performance of MPI_Allgather() in MPICH 1.2.5 on a Linux cluster. This implementation of MPICH improves on the performance of allgather compared to...
Ethernet Over SONET GFP, VCAT and LCAS
Enterprise networks are demanding Ethernet services to their Service Providers. In a time when capital is constrained, Service Providers want to use their present SONET/SDH infrastructure to transport Ethernet in...
TIA-942 Data Center Networking Applications: 10 Gigabit Ethernet Over Twisted-Pair Copper
In parallel and subsequent to the development of TIA-942, the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet working group published two twisted-pair copper standards, 1000 Mb/s Ethernet designated 1000BASE-T and 10 Gb/s Ethernet (10...
