Bluetooth and Printing

Overview The Bluetooth standard supports specific applications through the use of a concept called Profiles. Profiles define standard ways to communicate with devices, and are intended to provide compatibility between products from different vendors and encourage development of Bluetooth-enabled products. Of specific relevance to printing and scanning products are two proposed profiles: Basic Printing Profile and Hardcopy Cable Replacement Profile. The Basic Printing Profile is intended for printing from mobile devices. It is relatively lightweight and simple, suitable for such devices. The Hardcopy Cable Replacement Profile is specialised for hardcopy applications and thus has the following advantages over other more generic profiles.
