Strategic Secure Voice Challenge

Overview This white paper proposes that the military should upgrade from the traditional legacy communization equipment. The military has purchased the STU-III (Secure Terminal Unit version 3.0) as the strategic secure voice equipment of choice, but now must consider if a new course of action is warranted. It is standard procedure for any new equipment to address backward compatibility with the old system. With today’s wireless systems, the requirement to maintain a compatibility thread with our legacy STU-III equipment is a daunting one. The Department of Defense should procure new wireless strategic voice equipment and move away from our legacy, desktop STU-III equipment.
