HIPAA Compliance for SpectraLink Wireless Telephones

Overview This document talks about issues relating to the compliance of HIPAA standards by SpectrLink phones. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) were signed into law in 1996 with the following provisions, guarantee health insurance coverage of employees, reduce healthcare fraud and abuse, simplify administration to improve effectiveness and efficiency, and protect the health information of individuals against access without consent or authorization. SpectraLink Wireless Telephones are not mandated under HIPAA regulations because they function as oral communication devices, and even though the handsets are capable of displaying text information, the information is only displayed and not stored on the device.
