Wireless LAN White Papers

Wireless LAN - Broadband or Mobile?

Overview Many experts have been proposing Wireless LAN (WiFi) technologies for office cable replacement, mobile capacity hot-spot coverage and suburban broadband access. The technologies available today have limitations including a very limited number of non-overlapping radio channels and a security protocol that has been demonstrated to be flawed. However, the technology is inexpensive and easy to deploy and the security flaws can be overcome by implementing industry standard VPN techniques. This White Paper outlines an approach that illustrates how broadband Internet access can be provided cost-effectively to suburban and semi-rural areas that xDSL services are often unable to reach using this readily available technology.
