NYC And IBM Construct Wireless Prototype for Efficient Building Inspections
Overview The New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) has been ensuring a safe foundation for the 900,000 structures in this bustling city since 1892, when each of the then- autonomous boroughs had its own Superintendent of Buildings. In the aftermath of Sept. 11, the DOB recognized that it could greatly enhance the efficiency of its inspectors through wireless technology. The DOB called on IBM, a trusted, long-time technology partner, for help. Working together with mobile application provider LinksPoint of Norwalk, Connecticut, the team developed a prototype of a mobile application for building inspection reports.
