Novell’s Pioneering Use of Wireless Computing Enhances Productivity and Agility, Cuts IT Costs

Overview In 2001, with some 65 percent of its employees already using notebooks, Novell decided to take the logical next step and deploy a wireless local area network (WLAN). Today, Novell estimates 85 percent of its employees use wireless notebooks - based on Intel mobile processors - for seamless access to data and applications, whether at the company cafeteria or Novell facilities around the world. Wireless computing has helped Novell reduce its network installation costs by 8 times and lower its total cost of networking. Users are more productive, and the pace of business is faster because people can access and act on information instantly, from wherever they work. Novell’s network manager says the whole process has been remarkably easy.
