Palm White Papers
Investigator Discovers the Power of Quickoffice
Overview Special Agent Larry Myers works for a criminal investigation agency in the State of Tennessee. Paperwork! Preparing documentation for a courtroom presentation requires a high degree of accuracy in the notes Larry takes while out in the field. Transferring handwritten notes to a desktop computer wasn't practical or convenient. The whole process could be very time consuming and the possibility of human error created concern. In addition, investigative activity is required to be placed in a uniform, agency-approved format for statistical tracking purposes. Larry needed a method of transferring all of his field note information to a desktop computer while eliminating the need to re-enter information, thereby saving time and ensuring accuracy. Larry's first course of action was to purchase a Palm OS handheld and keyboard for use in taking notes during interviews and meetings. The new handheld was much easier to carry than a laptop and Quickoffice enabled Larry to work in a format compatible with the Word and Excel programs.
