Linux Server OS White Papers

The Powerful Combination of Linux and the Intel Itanium Processor Family

Overview As the number of Linux users and applications grow, so will the demand for more powerful servers to support them. Intel Itanium architecture is ideally suited to meet the challenge. Itanium architecture offers many features that provide a means of supplying more power on fewer machines. With the introduction of the Intel Itanium 2 processor, the second member of the Itanium processor family, the level of power has been increased. Intel estimates that software written for the Itanium processor will offer between 1.5 and 2 times performance on the Itanium 2 processor, without recompilation.
